Retort packaging is a functional composite flexible packaging solution designed to withstand high-temperature, high-pressure sterilization at 121°C–135°C, enabling long-term shelf stability at ambient conditions without preservatives. These pouches feature a high-temperature-resistant, multi-layer retort structure. The inner layer is a CPP (cast polypropylene) retort-grade heat-sealable film, while the middle layers include a nylon puncture-resistant reinforcement and an EVOH or aluminum foil high-barrier layer. This composition ensures structural stability during sterilization, preventing delamination, bag rupture, or the release of harmful substances. It effectively resolves the common issues of leakage, off-flavors, and short shelf life encountered with ordinary packaging after sterilization. Compliant retort pouches can provide a shelf life of 6–24 months at room temperature, eliminating the need for cold-chain storage and transport and significantly reducing distribution costs for brands.
